Reflection

This marking period has been nothing but a learning and growing experience for me. I've learned a bunch of new techniques to develop paper and how to make a collage. I've already used the art of shading outside of school and i'm excited for the new project, cut paper laterns! Looking forward to a new and exciting second marking period in art class!

The Next President Collage

This assignment I enjoyed much more then the drawing. It takes less concentration and you can get a message of how you feel across to anyone who looks at it. For this assignment I had to put my perfectionist trait aside and just go for it. It took me a little while to succesfully do that but before I knew it I was done. Layer by layer, I didn't know what was next. I started with paint and added tissue paper and did a few gloss transfers. After, I started taking risky steps and following through with more bold actions and finally finished with using real leaves and flower petals. I decided that I have strong feelings about the war going on in the middle east. I understand at one point in time it was important to make our presence over there known, but now it is a different story. I feel as though there isn't any reason we should still be fighting over there and losing our men when we took care of the head of the terrorist society. On top of the unnecessary loss families are going through, our country can not afford this war. This subject is very aggravating to me so I decided to make it the subject of my collage.

^^^^This is about half way done.

^^^^This is the finished product.

The dove is my favorite part of this collage and I am very happy with my decision to dry brush over it with sliver. =]

The Learning Process Begins

Our first project of the marking period was a drawing. We were instructed to bring in a pair of our own shoes to act as a display for others as well as ourselves if we so choosed. The dozens of pairs were placed in the middle of our tables to act as a model. We had to zoom into a specific spot that we thought was interesting, draw it, shade it, and add a splash of color. I choose a pile of baby shoes since I couldn't get over how adorable they were. The drawing wasn't the hard part for me since I enjoy drawing, but the shading was another story. I have shaded my drawings before but not to make them look three dimensional, even though that usually is the purpose of shading. Towards the finished product I finally got the hang of it and understood the concept. I went back and adjusted what I could. I added red as the color of my choice since the lady bug shoes stood out the most to me even though they were partially hidden. I'm proud of my finished product not because it was perfect but because I learned a new valuable skill that I can use in the future.

"Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art"

As a senior this year I wanted to take a few classes that I could see myself enjoying. Art was one of them. Just with the yearly overview the first few days I can already tell I am going to love this class. I've always liked to draw and lately I've been using new materials instead of the normal pencil and crayons or colored pencils. I decided that I really enjoy working with chalk pastels. I can't wait to experiment with more new and exciting materials. I believe no matter how a piece of art looks to the creator, it is a masterpiece.
